Synthetic Aperture Radar Environment Simulator

Digilogic Systems SAR Satellite simulation

Digilogic’s Synthetic Aperture Radar Environment Simulator (SARES) is a system designed to simulate RF signatures of synthetic SAR 3D objects. SARES is based on a ray-tracing technique, which simplifies wave propagation in a medium by considering geometrical lines from the wave source to the receiver (forward method) or from the receiver to the source (backward method). Responses of the ray traversal through the virtual scene are interpreted to reproduce that scene as a SAR image. Hence, SARES simulates SAR RF based on an object geometry and its physical properties. The adaptation of a ray-tracing technique in this module requires a 3D model of an object of which a SAR signature is simulated. The Synthetic Aperture Radar Environment Simulator uses a triangle-based 3D object, the most popular object representation for ray-tracing technique. The software simulates Level 1 SAR amplitude images of any given 3D model (a single object or multiple objects). It takes advantage of the newest developments in the GPU cards and related technologies.

Key Features of Synthetic Aperture Radar Environment Simulator:

  • High-fidelity EM wave propagation considering reflection, scattering and diffraction.
  • Dedicated models for clutter materials including speckle effects.
  • True Real-Time simulations – signatures are computed on the fly allowing users to change any parameter and see the results instantly.
  • Selection of a wide range of simulation parameters like object rotation, spatial resolution, incidence angle, pixel spacing, noise level, object and background physical characteristics, etc.
  • Possibility to simulate one of existing, pre-defined SAR sensors from the list or to set any other combination of parameters.
  • High geometric and radiometric accuracies of the results.
  • User friendly interface.
